
In 2019, The Pokemon Company and Legendary Pictures launched the Detective Pikachu live-action film, which went on to become some of the beloved and profitable videogame adaptation films of all time.
Despite preliminary reports that a sequel had been greenlit, there was little news about such a project since then. The original film’s star Justice Smith even mentioned in a 2021 interview that he didn’t suppose the sequel was more probably to occur.
Recently nevertheless, Polygon managed to get an replace from Legendary Entertainment in regards to the status of the film. According to the consultant, the sequel to Detective Pikachu is “still in lively development” although they may not verify who was working on the project. As for The Pokemon Company, they declined to touch upon the development of that movie or another associated works.
Polygon also quoted a couple of feedback from the unique film’s writers Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez about the sequel from a discussion about their animated series Koala Man.
