A Ridgeland man recently accomplished work on the set of the film “Devotion,” portraying a senior naval officer aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Leyte.
Daniel Morgan, who has been working within the film and television business for the previous three years, was part of the movie based on the true story of two Navy fighter pilots, Thomas Hadner and Jesse L. Brown. The film was launched nationwide Nov. 23.
Morgan’s position positioned him on the USS Leyte through the Korean War. USS Leyte was certainly one of 24 aircraft carriers constructed during and shortly after World War II for the U.S. Navy, according to Wikipedia.
“Devotion”, which takes place during the Korean War, tells the story of Brown, the primary African-American pilot who completed the Navy’s basic flight program. Brown died in December of 1950 when he was shot down. Hadner went on to earn the Medal of Honor after his efforts to save his fellow pilot.
“I initially discovered an ad on Facebook on the lookout for Extras in a TV show in Savannah and determined to see what it was all about,” Morgan stated of his curiosity in working in the film and television business. “As I received extra involved, I decided to see if I may broaden into better roles.”
Morgan stated he started working as a background/extra roughly three years ago on NBC’s “Council of Dads.” Since that point, he has been seen on multiple shows on Disney+, HBO, Netflix, History Channel, HULU, Amazon Prime, a quantity of media campaigns/print and video, commercials, and a variety of other short movies.
Filming for “Devotion” took place in and around Savannah, solely a short commute for Morgan from Ridgeland.
“I filmed for 3 weeks in Statesboro, Georgia (just exterior of Savannah),” Morgan said. “They constructed the whole aircraft provider on the runway of the county airport there.”
As far as his function and working on set with other actors,, together with Joe Jonas, Glen Powell (who performed Hudner within the movie) in addition to many others, Morgan mentioned the actors seemed focused on the job at hand.
“The different actors are usually just regular individuals,” Morgan mentioned. “They are usually very centered on set as they are getting ready for their roles and memorizing their lines.”
Morgan has worked with many well-known actors so far, however only one had him “star-struck.”
“Jamie Lee Curtis is the one actress that had me ‘star-struck,”’ he mentioned. “I grew up watching all of her films and got to work with her in ‘Halloween Ends.’ James Courtney (who performs Michael Myers) truly struck me in the chest (as a part of the script).”
Morgan has also been in films and shows with Bruce Willis, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Elle Fanning, Cynthia Erivo, Common, Keke Palmer, and many extra.
“Jasper County is ideally situated to journey relatively brief distances to be part of many filming tasks,” he stated. “The best part about engaged on the set of ‘Devotion’ was that it had a $90-million price range. There was an incredible quantity of element positioned on every aspect of filming to make sure the accuracy of the venture.”
Morgan said for these thinking about pursuing a career in movie or tv, there are hundreds of jobs out there domestically in the business.
“Most of the work is finished behind the cameras,” he mentioned. “Everything from set construction, electrical, to particular results and stunts, and even catering. Most of these jobs are well-paid union jobs.”
While Morgan’s position in “Devotion” is now a wrap, he mentioned continues to seek new roles.
“I am currently engaged on season 8 of a collection that airs on AMC networks,” he stated. “I recently finished a photoshoot for a Visit Myrtle Beach advert marketing campaign and could be seen as an astronaut in an SC Education Lottery business that is currently airing. I apply to new roles nearly every day.”
